Invisible Technologies: Red Flags, Shamans, No Work and Big False News
If Bernie Madoff, Enron and Elizabeth Holmes had a threesome, and the threesome resulted in an accidental pregnancy, that child would be Invisible Technologies.
I was hired at Invisible Technologies in 2024 to Train AI at 21.50 USD.
Usually when you look back at a situation, you say, “After a while I started to notice some red flags.”
Very rarely do you notice the red flags on your first day.
Invisible Technologies Red Flags
After being hired, you are put through a training course that is 2-3 weeks. At the end of the course, you are supposed to do some assignments. If you pass the assignments, you are put into the live environment where you can do real work.
**Red Flag #1: **The People who are your “guides” during the training phase just graduated from the training class that ended two weeks before your started. Some of these people are also grading your assignments.
Red Flag #2: When your training class ends, some of the people in your training class, are then chosen to become guides for the training class that starts right after your training class.
What do these first two red flags mean? It means one of two things.
Possible Meaning #1: Invisible Technologies has no respect for training, learning or development.
Possible Meaning #2: There is no work for these people to do so just keep them busy by making them guides.
You hired them to train AI? Why not give them some AI to train? It is like a revolving door of people being hired, chosen to train the next class, then start the process over again.
Red Flag #3: Assignments that decide if you can go to the live environment were not marked.
When an assignment is marked, comments are left on your assignment in Google docs. So, you can tell if someone marked your assignment if there are comments on it. Because you are a contractor, during the period that you are waiting for your assignments to be marked, you are not paid. When you get tired of days without pay piling up, and you and your assignments being ignored, you inquire.
Then you re told that you didn’t pass the assignments.
Red Flag #4: During my time there, I checked. I was unable to find a manager that had been with the company for more than 7 months. It made me wonder, what caused the managers to run after a few months?
INVISIBLE TECHNOLOGIES SPIRITUAL DAILY EMAILS
During my 2nd day of work, I received an email that went out to the entire company, it was an invitation to a meeting on exploring shamanic traditions. I have heard of, or participated in workplace wellness programs, company sponsored volunteer work, team building activities, day-away events, fitness classes at work, but never have I seen a company wide email go out inviting the staff to explore shamanic traditions.
A few weeks after this I received an invitation to a WhatsApp group for spiritual matters and also started receiving daily emails with spiritual quotes, advice and thoughts. The unfortunate thing about this was that when there was no work to do, no pay and no money, the spiritual advice arrived right on schedule every day.
This really bothered me because I did not sign up for spiritual enlightenment. I signed up for paid work.
However, we’ll get to the lack of work and pay part later. Now we’re just talking about shamanic traditions in company-wide emails.
This is a print screen from the YouTube page of the founder of the company. Does this look like the YouTube page of the head of a company or the YouTube page of a spiritual leader?
In the summer of 2024, I started working on an AI training project. The work itself felt like a digital sweatshop but I decided to grin and bear it to meet some financial goals that I had set for myself. I went about my work every day and did what was required for the big client we were told we were working for. OpenAI is clearly listed on their home page as a client. It was not Open AI.
I will not name the client here. There are certain companies that you could say the name and every person on earth would know the company, like McDonalds. This was not McDonalds. However, if I said the name of the company, everyone including people who live in caves would know the name of the big-name client we were told we were training AI for.
A few days after I started, a meeting was called, and we were told the project was paused.
I thought it was just me and a few dozen people. I later found out that approximately 1200 people were affected by this pause. We were told that the end-client was happy with our work, that work would resume in two weeks, and that everyone still had a spot in the Invisible Marketplace.
This was my first time hearing about the “Invisible Marketplace.” This is the name for the pool of talent that is available to work on projects. I later realized that having a spot in the Invisible Marketplace means nothing. It doesn’t mean you have work. It means you have the opportunity to apply if work becomes available.
But let’s get back to the work pause. At first, we were told it was a two week pause. Each time the deadline for the pause to end came around, it was extended again. Finally, in August, after six weeks of extending the deadline to resume work, they finally admitted that there was no more work and that the project would not resume.
This decision devastated and shocked approximately 1200 people who were suddenly left without promised work. Many of these people had husbands, wives, and children.
When people began voicing their anger, the entire slack channel where the project lived was deleted, removing all proof that the project had ever even existed. This was then followed by
1) Daily offers of Job Opportunities in Non-English Languages.
2) Job opportunities starting at 3.80 per hour. I do not like the term Third World or First World, so I will use the term Developed Nations and Developing Nations. They began offering people in Developed Nations with Developed Nations expenses Developing nations pay. I suspect they were expecting that people who had just had the rug pulled out of them and had zero income would jump at the chance to work at 3.80 per hour just to have some money coming in. Occasionally, you would see a job in English. But by the time you clicked on it, it would be marked as closed, meaning no more applicants were being accepted.
Big News about Invisible Staff at Invisible Technologies
After the project ended, and my post-Invisible Technologies life began, I was subjected to a series of news stories that I think should be cause for concern to anyone that has any dealings of any kind with this company. It should also concern anyone who is considering having any dealings with this company.
The very first story was a story called, Invisible Technologies Ranks No. 3 in Artificial Intelligence and No. 152 Overall on the 2024 Inc. 5000 This story, which ran on August 14th, 2024 made no mention of the approximately 1200 staff members that had the rug pulled out from under them 8 days before on August 6th when we were told the big project had ended. My concern about this article is that if a publicly traded company had just let 1200 employees go, they would have had to tell this to someone and their shareholders. Because Invisible is not a publicly traded company, they could just coast through without mentioning to a soul that they had just likely lost a major contract and left 1200 people without work because of it.
I kept reading braggy stories like this but then something changed, the stories took a dishonest turn.
The next news story came from Reuters, a respected news source. The article was called, “If your AI seems smarter, it's thanks to smarter human trainers”
With shock, I read the following statement: "We have 5,000 people in over 100 countries around the world that are PhDs, Master's degree holders and knowledge work specialists," said Invisible founder Francis Pedraza.
This is blatantly false information.
I know this because people like me who have had no work to do since the first week of August are included in this false 5000 number. This number refers to the talent pool of available workers called the Invisible Marketplace.
It does not represent 5,000 people who come to work every day and work at their desks training AI.
For the next several days, I watched this “5000” number repeated and requoted.
Then on October 25, 2004 the following story went out.
“Invisible Names Wes Green as Global Public Sector SVP – GovCon Wire”
I like the name of this publication. Gov Con.
Here are my concerns about this information.
In the Gov Con article, it implies that Invisible is launching Global Public Sector Operations. It says, “Invisible Technologies has appointed Wes Green, a 28-year defense and national security market veteran, as senior vice president to lead its newly launched global public sector operations.”
However, over in the Business Wire version of this same story, Invisible Launches Global Public Sector Operations, it implies that they already have some Government customers. Here is what it says: “Invisible - the operations innovation company revolutionizing how companies are built and run, has appointed Wes Green as the company’s first senior vice president, Global Public Sector. In this role, Green will spearhead Invisible’s fast-growing public sector operations and propel the company into a new industry.”
If something is fast-growing, it already exists. It exists and it is fast-growing. This implies that there are already some government customers.
Maybe there are. Maybe there aren’t.
However, while reading this I couldn’t help thinking of another Silicon Valley Startup that bragged about “Government Customers.”
The CEO is in jail.
At the end of the day, you have to ask, why would any one do this? Why would anyone brag about having 1000s of workers working on AI when many of these workers are sitting at home with nothing to do? The only reason I can think of is it makes you look good. It makes you look big. It makes you look important. It makes you look like a great investment.
It positions you as a great place for people to put their money, their trust, and their hope of full-time AI work.
However, this comes at a price. The lack of regard for workers alone has already resulted in many people being affected.
Multiple people have already been hurt, and my gut feeling is that more people are going to be hurt by this pattern of behavior.
I am going to stop writing here and just say this: I encourage anyone who cares about the truth, honesty, or Shamanism, to keep a very close eye on Invisible Technologies.
